It gives well-meaning charities a bad name. |
MADD Canada has stopped fundraising across the country pending an internal review of allegations that most donor money stays with professional telemarketers and door-knockers. Only nineteen cents on the dollar makes it to the intended purposes: to combat drunk driving and support victims of it. And with this being the Christmas season, when drunk driving peaks, it sends a really bad message and undermines the whole principle of MADD. MADD was a great idea when it began, but perhaps (like our previous government proved on a larger scale) it just got too big and unaccountable. I hope they are able to straighten themselves out without losing everything, including credability.
